The 1-day brand kit: what to ship in 24 hours
You don’t need a 50-page brand guidelines document to launch. You need 5 things, and you can ship them in 24 hours.
1. The logo system (2 hours)
Not “a logo.” A system: primary lockup, simplified mark, monogram, favicon. Four files that handle every real-world use case.
- Primary lockup: full wordmark + symbol. Website header, business cards, formal docs.
- Simplified mark: symbol only. Social profile pictures, app icons.
- Monogram: 1-2 letter version. Loading screens, watermarks.
- Favicon: 32×32 px. The thing in the browser tab.
2. The color palette (1 hour)
Six colors max. More than that and your designs become inconsistent.
- Primary brand color
- Secondary (pairs with primary)
- Black/charcoal (text + borders)
- White/cream (backgrounds)
- 2 accent colors (highlights, CTAs)
Define HEX, RGB, and CMYK for each. Store as CSS variables (--brand-primary).
3. Typography stack (1 hour)
- Headline: bold, distinctive. Archivo Black, Space Grotesk, Inter Bold.
- Body: readable at 16px. Inter, Source Sans, system stack.
- Accent (optional): JetBrains Mono, IBM Plex Mono.
Always include fallbacks: font-family: "Archivo Black", system-ui, sans-serif.
4. Spacing + sizing tokens (1 hour)
This is the boring one most kits skip. Don’t skip it.
- Base unit: 4px or 8px
- Scale: 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 24 / 32 / 48 / 64 / 96 / 128
- Font sizes: 12 / 14 / 16 / 18 / 24 / 32 / 44 / 56 / 64
5. The guidelines PDF (3 hours)
Six pages, no more: logo usage, color palette, typography, spacing, voice + tone, examples.
What you DON’T need on day 1
- 50-page brand book
- Pattern libraries
- Sound branding
- Motion guidelines
- Photography style guides
These come AFTER you launch and learn what your brand actually needs. Building them on day 1 is procrastination dressed as thoroughness.
Total time: 8 hours
